About the Estate

Michael and Pamela Freed chose Oregon's Umpqua Valley, just 80 miles from the Pacific Ocean, to establish their vineyard. It lies just outside Winston, Oregon, on 35 acres by the South Umpqua River at 530 feet above sea level.

Knowing their site was warmer and drier than Oregon’s cool, moist Willamette Valley, they planted Syrah, Viognier, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon in a north-and-south orientation on a single, high-wire Sylvoz trellis system.

Winston enjoys a mild climate with low wind velocity and 35 inches of rain per year. It even gets one or two snowfalls every year, which rarely last on the ground after mid-day.

Pam and Mike celebrated their first grape harvest in 2002.
