Introducing Freed Estate
Vinifera Wine Grapes Grown in Oregon, USA
Freed Estate is a 35-acre vineyard producing premium wine grapes in southern Oregon’s Umpqua Valley near Roseburg. The vineyard was planted in 2000 and 2001 and caters primarily to wineries seeking quality fruit from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah.
A tasting room is currently being built on the premises. You can view the photos documenting its development on our blog.
Availability of the Grapes
Freed Estate is available to supply red winegrapes of the Umpqua Valley and Southern Oregon appellations to professional and home winemakers for the 2010 vintage.

Spotlight On...
2004 Flying Dutchman Syrah, Freed Vineyard
Richard Cutler has been making wine from Freed Estate grapes since 2002 over at Flying Dutchman Winery on the Oregon Coast in Otter Rock, a few miles north of Newport and right next to Devil’s Punchbowl State Natural Area.
The 2004 Syrah was aged two years in new French and Hungarian oak, and aged one year in the bottle before release. The wine has "extraordinary smoothness and is layered with vanilla and cherry flavors," says Richard. In November 2007, it was awarded the Silver Medal at the Tri-Cities Wine Festival in eastern Washington.
The 2004 Syrah is available at Flying Dutchman Winery in Otter Rock and at their tasting room in Astoria in Oregon’s northwestern corner.
